LISA CISNEROS

2018 Recipient

Lisa Cisneros grew up in Salinas, and currently serves as California Rural Legal Assistance’s LGBT Program Director. The program advocates on behalf of LGBTQ communities in rural, low-income, heavily immigrant regions of California, including the Central Valley and Central Coast. Lisa engages in legal representation and creative community based advocacy to address workplace harassment, school climate issues, and violence impacting LGBTQ individuals. Lisa works closely with rural LGBTQ community based groups and emerging leaders. While in private practice, Lisa represented civil and constitutional law professors in an amicus brief filed before the Supreme Court in Hollingsworth v. Perry, (the Proposition 8 case). In 2017, Governor Brown appointed Lisa to California’s Fair Employment and Housing Council. Lisa also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Center for Lesbian Rights. In addition to serving her beloved community, Lisa enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
